Murphy Grassland Services Ltd offer a professional on farm grassland management service to dairy farmers in counties of Kildare, Carlow, Wicklow, North Wexford and North Kilkenny.

Founded by owner Jack Murphy in 2022, ‘Murphy Grassland Services’ aims to provide farmers with efficient and accurate methods of farm management. The company primarily conducts farm mapping, soil sampling and grass measuring to aid farmers in understanding their own farm and land.

About the Team

Jack Murphy – Owner

Alongside a keen interest in the agricultural sector, Jack leads ‘Murphy Grassland Services’ with an abundance of experience in a variety of fields. Having spent time working in both Ireland and New Zealand, Jack integrates his dairy knowledge to provide farmers with well-rounded advice and high quality services.

Jack is also accomplished academically graduating as student of the year in his Professional Diploma in Dairy Farm Management from Teagasc Moorepark in 2019. Prior to this he completed a level 5 degree in Agriculture and a level 6 degree in Dry Stock Management. This background has allowed him to become a respected and valued member of the farming community. Previous to his latest venture Jack fulfilled the role of farm manager at Coursetown Dairies.

Michael Dempsey

Although Jack himself carries out most of the work for ‘Murphy Grassland Services’, he is assisted part-time by Michael Dempsey, a recent Dairy Business graduate from UCD. Like Jack, Michael is very accomplished in his sector bringing with him additional experience in the industry.

Professional & Affordable Grassland Management Advice

Murphy Grassland Services was set up with the aim to provide farmers with efficient and accurate ways to manage their farm both more efficiently and cost effectively. The company carries out farm mapping, soil sampling, communication whiteboards and grass measuring as part of its services. Below is greater detail of what these on farm services entail:

Grass Measuring

Our grass measuring service has proven very popular and beneficial this year amongst our derogation farmers. Not only does it improve the individual’s grassland management, but also achieves EU regulation for strategic planning. This service can be provided weekly to allow for appropriate stocking rates, or as required to give you a better understanding of grass measuring.

Farm Mapping

Accurate measurements of fields/paddocks are obtained using the grasshopper application and an ATV. On completion, digital maps are sent individually to each farmer for printing. Alternatively, we can provide 4ft x 2ft customised whiteboards displaying your farm map. This is a great option which allows for improved note taking and communication amongst your staff.

Soil Sampling

We take our samples using an ATV quad and mounted ‘Wintex soil sampler’. This allows for more accurate and efficient sampling across all terrain. Where required samples can also be taken on foot. Recently we teamed up with ‘FarmTeam’, a Carlow based company, to use their app, ‘Livesoil GPS’. By providing a location stamp to each sample, this app gives the farmer peace of mind in relation to our work. On receipt of the soil results we team up with our clients to discuss and improve the soil health.

Whiteboards

At ‘Murphy Grassland Services‘, we produce various 4ft x 2ft whiteboards which include grazing planners, farm maps and note taking boards. All premium quality boards are waterproof and very effective communication tools on the farm.
